Becoming a parent certainly poses its challenges. Figuring out what to name your baby may be among one of the first and the task may come easier to some than others. Whether or not you want to stick to conventional classic baby names or make an out-of-the-box choice, there is lots to consider. Certain names are more popular than others each year so let’s explore what those names are in 2024 and what might be the reason for these trends.
The year is not over yet but BabyCenter has shared their data for the most popular baby names of 2024 thus far.
Coming in at the number one spot this year for girl’s names is Olivia! Olivia has been a steadily popular name throughout the past few years, and it’s been a top 10 girls’ name in the U.S since 2001. It’s been the number one name for five years in a row since 2019. Followed by Olivia are Amelia and Emma in the number two and three spots.
The number one boy's name for 2024 so far is Noah! Noah has been in the top 10 baby boy names list since 2009 and has been first or second since 2013. It’s also a name that’s becoming increasingly popular for girls, although much less common. Noah is followed second by Liam and third by Oliver for baby boy names.
Common names like Noah and Olivia will likely top the charts for years to come. However, you might’ve also noticed there’s been a trend towards less conventional baby names – so much so that people will go to great lengths to keep their ideas concealed. Take the Kardashian-Jenner families for instance. It’s not every day that you meet a ‘North’ or a ‘Stormi’. Public figures like the Kardashians are particularly prone to a peculiar baby name. It’s because of people like them that we’re seeing a decrease in the overall commonality of names and an increase in name diversity. Model, Nara Smith, is another mom-influencer known for her unconventional choice in baby names with her children ‘Rumble Honey’ and ‘Slim Easy’.
