Colorectal Cancer: 45 Is the New 50

A change in recommended screening age from 50 to 45 and the new GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy module are helping physicians prevent colorectal cancer.

Colorectal cancer is the third-most diagnosed cancer in the U.S. and the second leading cause of cancer deaths. However, a change in recommended screening age from 50 to 45 and the new GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy module used during colonoscopies are helping physicians prevent colorectal cancer. A colonoscopy is the most common screening procedure that can detect even the earliest stages of polyps. Any that are found can be removed during the procedure — reducing or eliminating the chance for colon cancer to develop. Thanks to the GI Genius™ intelligent endoscopy module, detection of those undetectable polyps has become easier. Paired with a lowered recommended screening age, physicians will be able to detect polyps before they turn into cancer. We sat down with Gastroenterologist Douglas K. Rex, and also met with Brooks Bell, a colorectal cancer survivor. Plus, a special appearance by Michael Sapienza, CEO of the Colorectal Cancer Alliance.
