One thing that this generation is still trying to figure out is dating. What seemed like nature to previous generations has proven very difficult for today's young adults. What’s to blame is up for debate but the reality is that the social landscape of the world has changed. People are finding it harder and harder to meet not only romantic prospects but also potential friends. Recently, it seems as though run clubs have become one of the solutions to this problem.
As we said before, it’s difficult to pinpoint the exact reason why dating and meeting people has posed such a challenge in this day and age. However, there are some likely reasons behind the difficulty. Technology is major considerable factor in the issue. The more that communication moves online, and our social interactions occur over the internet, the less we do so in person. The introduction of dating apps like Tinder, Hinge, and Bumble is a particular cause for concern. At first thought these apps may seem like they’d be helpful for dating, but they could be doing quite the opposite. Dating apps can be advantageous in some regards, however it’s led to a phenomenon known as choice overload. Contrary to dating in the past where we were limited to only those we came into physical contact with, the internet now gives people access to countless potential partners. The overwhelming number of choices makes it hard for people to commit to someone. It can create the illusion that there is always a better option. For those reasons many people are seeking more organic and traditional encounters as the way to meet their future partners.
How do run clubs fit into this? It might seem odd but run clubs have become a great opportunity for people to meet each other in a more organic way than the apps. If you think about it, it actually makes a lot of sense. Essentially, it’s a group of fit 20 somethings gathering at the same time for an hour or two every week. This sort of traditional meeting has been preferential to people not so fortunate with the dating apps. Run clubs are especially ideal for people not fond of the bar or club scene where the typical in-person meeting occurs. The internet has of course caught on to this dating trend and many have taken to TikTok to share their experience and encourage others to join in.
