Be A Reader

Studies show lower income and minority children are more likely to struggle to achieve basic levels of reading proficiency. But Carl Budding & Co has created a national campaign to encourage reading and improve literacy for kids from all walks of life.

Feed Your Child's Body And Mind!

Many kids are voracious eaters but inquisitive young minds also have a hunger for knowledge, something that parents need to attend to, starting at a young age. Reading books is a great way to encourage a child's intellectual and emotional development, motivating them to follow their dreams and realize their full potential. In fact, children who are better readers perform better in school, have a healthier self-image, and are better prepared to become life-long learners. That's why Carl Buddig & Company invites parents to make their kids "A Sandwich and a Story!"

Carl Buddig is a family-owned lunchmeat company that believes in strengthening and nourishing families, so they have partnered with Reading is Fundamental, the nation's largest non-profit literacy organization. Together with RIF, they formed the "Be a Reader" campaign, which is dedicated to helping moms and kids discover the joy of reading, and the "Sandwich and a Story Sweepstakes," a chance to win a Scholastic book library or Buddig Backpacks filled with school supplies. During events held all over the country, kids get to interact with authors, get free books, and become inspired to read and learn.

The funds raised through the campaign will support Reading Is Fundamental and help provide free books to underprivileged kids. A startling 2/3 of low income families in the U.S. own no books, but last year alone the RIF provided 15 million books to 4 million kids across the country. After suffering a $24.8 million cut in federal funding earlier this year, the organization now relies on corporate partners like Carl Buddig more than ever. Without them they wouldn't be able to continue serving the millions of children with no access to books in this country.

You can encourage your child to explore the people, places, and ideas that books bring them by making reading a part of their life from a young age. And you can nourish their bodies with quality lunch meats from Carl Buddig so they have the energy to experience everything the world has to offer.
