A Sweet, Holiday Treat That Lasts All Year Long!

When most people think about cranberries, they think of Holiday decorations and delicious cranberry sauce at Thanksgiving, but not many know of the countless health benefits of this amazing fruit. Not only do cranberries help prevent bladder and urinary tract infection, they also contain powerful anti-oxidants that can help protect us from cancer, heart disease, and many other ailments. Organic plant compounds called "phytonutrients" appear in cranberries as well, helping us obtain optimal health.

To enjoy the full benefit of cranberries you have to find a cranberry product that contains real, fresh berries that are not dried, sweetened, or flavored. Unfortunately, however, many processed cranberry products on the market today actually contain very little cranberry! The best option is a bag of fresh cranberries from Habelman Bros., which is loaded with nutrients and juicy goodness.

Habelman Bros. has been growing fresh cranberries for over a hundred years, and even though they may appear small compared to other produce companies, they remain the largest grower and packager of fresh cranberries in the world! They encourage people everywhere to stay healthy by making cranberries a part of their regular diet - not just a holiday treat. One easy tip is to purchase enough cranberries to last the whole year, and then throw them in the freezer until you're ready to use them.

Once you've got some fresh Habelman Bros. cranberries, try one of these delicious recipes to sweeten up your day:

Cranberry Sauce:

3 cups (12oz) fresh or frozen Habelman Bros. cranberries

In a medium saucepan, bring sugar and water to a boil. Add cranberries. Return to boil and stir occasionally until their skins pop. Remove from heat, cool to room temp and refrigerate until ready to serve.

8 slices sourdough bread
8 1-ounce slices deli turkey breast

In a small bowl, mix cranberry sauce and horseradish. Divide the cranberry sauce mixture equally among 4 slices of bread. Place two slices turkey and two slices cheese on top of cranberry mixture; top each with another slice of bread. Brush top and bottom of each sandwich with melted butter. Heat skillet or griddle to medium high heat and place 2 sandwiches on skillet. Cook, turning once, until golden brown (about 6 minutes), and repeat with remaining sandwiches.
