La Tortilla Loca

Loyal Balancing Act viewers know I am always on the lookout for things that make our lives easier. Well ladies this morning I have discovered a simple innovation for the kitchen that will come in handy for anyone preparing dishes using tortillas… and it comes just in time for those Cinco de Mayo celebrations.
I love using fresh warm tortillas in Mexican cuisine. In fact I also use them for creating wraps and other recipes too.. but here is the problem… the person PREPARING those tortillas.. and you know that is US ladies… has a tough time keeping them HOT. We’re either rushing from the kitchen to the table.. and often back to the kitchen again… reheating them in a futile attempt to keep them fresh and warm.
And for those who demand that authentic taste, we KNOW that just putting them in a microwave or an oven does not yield perfect results every time .. it’s usually hit or miss.
Well this little item I found.. made by La Tortilla Loca… has come to our rescue!!!! It’s a great lil invention that not only results in great tasting tortillas EVERY time… best of all it will keep them warm for about an hour.. that’s right! An hour!
What the people at La Tortilla Loca did was work with scientists at Dupont to develop the right materials.. patented by the way… that ensure perfect results by using this in your microwave.. yes a microwave! .. and yes it REALLY works!
It only takes about :90 seconds in the microwave and I can heat up 6 flour tortillas that will stay hot and fresh for almost an hour!
That means I am out of the kitchen and WITH my guests enjoying the food I prepared and the party.. not trapped in the kitchen keeping them warm.
I’ve also discovered some great other uses for heating or re-heating things with it too like hot dog buns, bagels, breakfast sandwhichs..here’s a great idea.. reheating cookies! Basically anything you want to heat quickly and keep warm for awhile.
And there is a big difference in how things taste using this versus just using the microwave.. It truly is one of those SIMPLE but amazing inventions you will feel you cannot live without.
