Understanding Melanoma & Treatment Options With Lynn Cancer Institute

Melanoma Treatment Options

Last year, more people were diagnosed with skin cancer than all other cancers combined.  Surgery is often presented as the only treatment choice, despite the fact that brachytherapy has been an effective treatment option in treating skin cancer for over 100 years. And while surgery is still often recommended, there are new and improved radiotherapy techniques.  One major breakthrough is Electronic Brachytherapy. Join Dr. Michael Kasper from Lynn Cancer Institute as we explore this proven and effective treatment option you may not have heard of.

Learn More About Brachytherapy

Brachytherapy has been around for some time, but not a lot of people know about it. It is a targeted type of radiotherapy that can be used to treat many different types of cancer, which is different from radiation therapy that treats an entire area.

Brachytherapy targets the specific area where the cancerous tumor is, from the “inside out”, so there are many benefits over the traditional radiation therapy;

– Reduces potential side effects
– Can be used for many types of cancer
– Affordable
– A high dose of Brachytherapy shortens treatment time
– Doesn’t leave radioactive isotope in your body

Less than half of the cancer centers around the country offer Brachytherapy, so it is best to talk to your doctor about all of your treatment options. Brachytherapy is sometimes used with other treatments for best results.
