Be a Star, Get on Track with Energy Efficiency

Do you know what the typical household spends per year in energy bills?

Did you know the typical household spends more than $2000 per year in energy bills with half going to heating and cooling?

We all want to save money! You can take action right now and start making your house more energy efficient today, by looking for the ENERGY STAR label on products.

ENERGY STAR is a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency voluntary program that helps businesses and individuals save money and protect our climate through superior energy efficiency.

Lower your household energy bills by making your home more energy efficient, while helping protect the environment with these actions:

  1. Start with your lighting—replace your old light-bulbs with ENERGY STAR certified LEDs or CFL lighting. Only LEDs that have earned the ENERGY STAR have demonstrated they can produce light in all directions and deliver on brightness.
  2. Next, start replacing old appliances with Energy Star certified ones such as refrigerators and dishwashers. In fact, if you were to purchase an ENERGY STAR certified clothes washer, dishwasher and refrigerator, you’ll save $750 over the products’ lifetime from the reduction of energy and water usage.
  3. If you’re ready for a major home improvement, consider replacing your home’s HVAC system. Depending on where you live, replacing your old heating and cooling system with equipment that has earned the ENERGY STAR can cut your annual energy bill by more than $115. You can also save up to $200 a year in heating and cooling costs by sealing and insulating your home with ENERGY STAR.

Everyone can play a part in the fight against climate change. From switching to ENERGY STAR certified LED or CFL lighting, to choosing ENERGY STAR certified appliances, to purchasing a new ENERGY STAR certified home, the decisions we make every day can add up to a big impact for our environment.
