Jumping Queen!!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I was told by a friend of mine recently that in numerology this is my year to have fun.

Well fun I’m definitely going t have especially with fashion.

Designers like BCBG, Proenza Schouler, Malandrino, Etro and Gucci

Re introduced the 70’s at the Spring/Summer Runway shows and one of my all time favs…

The return of the Jumpsuit.

Photobucket

In true bohemian form, these fabulous pieces were shown in silky and slinky fabrications with halter tops and deep plunging necklines. They came in bright colors, shine and neutral tones and covered in bold ethnic prints.

For day or night these one piece wonders make us feel connected some how in the reminiscing of happier and care free times. We live in a world of war and full of confusion, so it’s nice to see these styles brightening up the summer months.

Some of you are on the fence about this look but designers have made them so easy to wear by giving many choices of different silhouettes. These sexy yet comfy numbers come in full leg (LOVE!), cropped, harem (SO LOVE!)  And bell bottom (LOVE LOVE) so there’s no need to be afraid. Leave them loose or accent your waist by adding a belt Pair them with sandals, platforms or a Strappy heel for a more glamorous look.

They’re too much fun to pass up!!

Red Carpet Kudos and Catastrophes…

Tuesday, March 1st, 2011

Well, I’m not sure that Anne Hathaway and James Franco did such a bang up job hosting the 83rd Academy Awards last night, but I will say there was plenty of Fabulousness walking down the red carpet.

For the past couple of years, Oscar has been looking for ways to be more entertaining and aside from Bob Hope, Billy Crystal and Hugh Jackman, they’ve come up short. At least there was one constant…the fantastically eye popping Designer Gowns, Harry Winston jewels and Louboutins! Even celebrities came out to see what everyone else was wearing, and probably hoping deep inside that they came up a bit short of themselves!

On this night I expect nothing less then A-Listers being dressed to perfection, wearing form fitting silhouettes that cascade their bodies flawlessly.

Sometimes it’s a catastrophe and other times it’s to DIE FOR!!

So let’s start the show.

First, congratulations to my all time FAV Natalie Portman who not only took the Oscar for Best Actress but who was just stunning Rodarte purple sheath dress. I LOVE!

Photobucket

And of Course, my love, Colin Firth, who nabbed Best Actor!

Photobucket

And now…KUDOS TO THESE WINNERS:

MY BEST DRESSED WINNER Halle Berry who killed it  looking  absolutely breathtaking in her Marchesa gown with flowy tulle train. Her hair and make up were just flawless proving that she is still the pro on the red carpet!

Kudos to Mila Kunis was so feminine and beautiful in her romantic lavender lace Elie Saab couture gown. And again, her shoes, hair, make up and accessories were just perfect.

Hailee Steinfeld is adorable in this Marchesa dress. It’s youthful and age – appropriate. She wore a shoe that’s a bit too heavy but all and all she looks like a porcelain doll.

I loved Gwyneth Paltrow’s music influence on the red carpet. This trendy yet classic liquid silver Calvin Klein column gown was the perfect dress for a music performer at the Oscars. Paired with Brian Atwood shoes and Louis Vuitton accessories I think she rocked this look as only she could. On a side note, if she was nominated for an Oscar, this would have been a Catastrophe.

And lastly Kudos to Miss Jennifer Hudson who wore the best  Tangerine red gown of the evening. She wowed us with her new body and fabulous Versace gown!!

Photobucket

And now …….there were sooooo many catastrophes  I didn’t know where to begin!

Nicole Kidmans red carpet choice didn’t work .The messy pulled back hair, the wrong necklace and the red shoes. Such a huge catastrophe.  Sandra Bullocks ill fitted red gown made of bad fabric 8seemed to be an after thought. Scarlett Johansson is so sexy but this wrong Oscar choice looks like she didn’t care about getting glammed up for the Oscars. I think Jennifer Lawrence forgot she was attending the Oscars and arrived looking a bit like Pam Anderson in Bay watch. Elvira, I mean Sharon Stone could have saved her look with better hair and accessories. Cate Blanchet was missing the candles on her birthday cake dress although there was plenty of icing. I could go on and on but all I can say is where is the stylist. And if these ladies have one, time for a change!

On to the adorable Anne Hathaway hosting the Oscars. She changed 6 times. We all know she paid about a year’s salary to be styled in all of those gowns, so I personally expected to be wowed at every change having Anne stand out from every red carpet celeb. To my surprise I  Loved only  2; the amazing off shoulder cobalt column dress from Armani Privé and the burgundy beaded gown from Atelier Versace. Not to mention the Lanvin Tuxedo, which was brilliant! The rest speak for them selves, from the too heavy embroidered ivory Givenchy Haute Couture gown to the one shoulder  disco-style fringed gown by Oscar de la Renta that looked like something Rachel would wear more  then Anne.

And there you have it. Until next year!

Grammy Awards—The Fashion High and Low Notes!

Monday, February 14th, 2011

I am so in love with music and actually it’s why I became a Fashion Stylist. My love for the crazy ways musicians and singers speak to the world has always has fascinated me and The 53rd Annual Grammy Awards were no exception!

The evening was filled with the outlandish Pod entrance by Lady Gaga, sensational performances, and far out outfits—- there was eye candy and conversation for all.

It seemed like everyone went out of their way to make a statement. Some hit it dead on and others fell short.  At first I thought it was Christmas when Rhianna tripped onto the red carpet her snowfluff Jean Paul Gaultier gown.

Photobucket

Then I noticed that Katy Perry forgot to leave her wings at the door before leaving the

Victoria Secret show.

Photobucket

And then I entered…The Twilight Zone…Did I really see. Snooki and Situation?

Snooki in typical Snooki fashion was perfectly stuffed into her dress and Situation, as usual, didn’t make an effort.

Photobucket

Selma Blair shows off her baby bump as she walks the red carpet, but it looks like she added a bed skirt to her navy sundress.

Photobucket

Some were hard to look at, but there was plenty that I just loved. Too many to mention, but here are a few of my favs….

Ciara shows off a sexy Emilio Pucci blue dress with Givenchy shoes and cut outs in all the right places. Shoes were a bit heavy for this dress but from the ankles up. I completely LOVE!

Photobucket

Nicki Minaj wore head to toe Leopard print  outfit from Givenchy that worked perfectly, and with that she sported and a poofy new Do! Giving GAGA a run for her money?

Photobucket

Jennifer Hudson couldn’t have looked better. From head to toe, sheer perfection. She chose a Versace dress and Christian Louboutin shoes. Hard to go wrong with either one!!

Photobucket

LeAnn Rimes glammed things up and sparkled in a gold v-neck gown by Reem Acra. She was however looking a bit thin,

Photobucket

And last……..Lea Michele hit a home run with this Emilio Pucci black number

Stripes for spring

Monday, February 7th, 2011

One thing I absolutely Love about Fashion are the unexplored and reinvented ways designers mix  prints and patterns, colors and textures creating fresh and exciting styles season after season and this year is no exception.  For spring 2011, designers filled the runways with stripes, stripes and more stripes.

We leave the neutral tones of a long cold  winter and move right into  the eye popping  colors and patterns of spring. Clothes speak a language and to me Stripes represent fun, boldness, confidence and taking risks.

Runways showed these splendid lines every which way, horizontal, vertical, thin, and thick and all were splashed with bold colors.

No matter your shape or size, everyone can dive into this look.

If you have a boyish figure, horizontal stripes can add some much wanted curves. And if you have all curves you want go for some vertical stripes which can be slimming and even heightening for those like myself on the shorter side.

So make your way from the monochromatics of winter into the array of colored stripes for spring , add your statement sandals, a boho bag and  as I always say…have fun with fashion!

Golden Globes

Monday, January 17th, 2011

It’s that time of year again, AWARD SEASON.
If you watched and drooled over the Golden globes as I did last night you’ll enjoy reading what LISA LOVES and what Lisa Finds NOT SO LOVELY!

First, What I LOVE about award season most, is watching the glamorous gowns walking down the red carpet . It’s an evening when the elite of actors, directors, producers, songwriters etc. are recognized for their talent. We get to see them humbled by the win and nervous at the presence of such celebrity.
The host is usually crazy and the jokes at times make you gasp(as they did last night).
It’s a fairy tale at it’s best.

Surprisingly, When it came to fashion this year I found the golden globes to be a bit repetitive and boring. It was void of color and uniqueness.
There are a few ,however that knocked my socks off.
That’s why the best dressed in my opinion, won by far! She took a chance and came out a winner.
AND ON A SIDE NOTE….. Who thinks that Colin Firth is the sexiest man alive! Did you see the kiss he planted on his wife, after 16 years of marriage! He’s charming and he speaks Italian! UH!!!!
OK back to the Globes…..lol

Let’s start with EVA LONGORIA who arrived in a black stunning ZAC POSEN dress. She plays it safe with black as last year, but she looks just beautiful.

Photobucket

“Black Swan” best supporting actress nominee Mila Kunis grabbed on to the green trend at the Globes in this young and fresh Vera Wang dress.

Photobucket

. (Steve Granitz/Getty Images)

JANE FONDA looked EXQUISITE in her black gown with gold and black sequined sleeves from Georges Hobeika’s. She was elegant, yet edgy. I would have used a very small earring because the dress said so much that the earring actually took a bit away, none the less, she was elegant and classy.

Photobucket

Photobucket

I would say that Kaley Cuoco ran at a close 2nd in her flawless tiered lace gown.  Her handbag and accessories and hair style work brilliantly.

A confident looking AMY ADAMS wears the perfect jewel tone Marchesa dress with the perfect fit.

Photobucket

AND THE WINNER IS…….Anne Hathaway

This is Statuesque Glamour at its finest!! Congratulations Anne who opted out of the normal Cinderella gown and slipped into this sleek Armani Prive number! Absolutely the very Best dressed of the evening.

Now for the fun….Even the A-Listers get it wrong sometimes and this night…

Here are the

NOT SO Loveliest of the evening.

Photobucket

How to make your midriff look larger then it is?

Take a stunning red cut out dress that looks perfect on the hanger and think it looks that perfect on you.  Re designed, this could have been perfect.

Photobucket

Now sing along to “All the leaves are Brown, and the sky is grey, and the sky is grey, Sandra shouldn’t wear those bangs on golden globe day”

Photobucket

Between Michelle’s Flower power on her way to run in the fields Valentino dress and Sandra’s Disaster bangs I feel like we’re in a flash back!

Photobucket

Heidi, Does anything look familiar??

Need I say more!

Photobucket

Has Anyone seen Jennifer Love? I can’t find her in all of that dress!!

Photobucket

And the winner is!!!!

Helena Bonham Carter in Vivienne Westwood who looks like she walked right out of Alice in Wonderland.  The shoes, the dress, OH MY! Did anyone tell her they were finished filming?

Just Do It!! Styling the new NIKE commercial with Heat star Dwayne Wade

Wednesday, November 3rd, 2010

Okay, the world is buzzing about the Three Kings taking center court with The Heat. But honestly when I got the call to dress Dwayne Wade, the super-sized basketball superstar for his new NIKE commercial, my thoughts were how am I going to get this all done with my crazy schedule…but I was determined to score this job!

When I met with the award-winning commercial director, the job seemed fairly simple. Costume design and style one outfit for Dwayne Wade and comedian Kevin Hart and make triplicates of everything for the stunt and photo doubles. The job started as most do, with me researching the exciting, high flying concept( see video) and send the director and producer my ideas. This means that I shop, make PDF’s of my ideas and have a meeting with the advertising agency, the client, the producer and the director to narrow down and decide on the final choices. (more…)

PONCHOS AND CAPES …OH MY!!

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

I define my style by saying I’m one part neo-hippie, a little rock- n-roll mixed with classic designs and vintage finds. I like to effortlessly mix these combinations together to create a look unique to me. The iconic pop culture or the 60’s is instilled in me and the fashion icons of that time; Edie Sedgwick, Twiggy, Janis Joplin and Brigitte Bardot are some of my biggest inspirations. (more…)
