DEAR GOLDEN GLOBES

Wednesday, January 18th, 2012

Thank you Dear Globes for putting on an award show this year where I was able to watch so many amazingly beautiful people, so much so that my eyes actually burned!! The Diamonds, The shine, the stilettos Oh My!! The Hair & makeup and the handsome men!

 Ok. First things first.
New Rule.
If you can’t dress yourself you can’t critique. So Miss Osbourne, off with the dress and blue hair and on to fashion school.
An opinion makes a fashion expert NOT.

And now
CUDOS AND CATASTROPHIES…

There were so many gorgeous dresses on the red carpet last night and to really see who won best dressed I had to get down to details.

I must start with the uber sexy Johnny Depp with his cool enigmatic attitude and tinted shades. He certainly pulled off edge and chic with great charm. Adding accessories of a pocket watch which he wears so well and a sheen emerald vest he rocked the red carpet.
Cudos Johnny!

Reese

Ok, I’ll say it. Sexy sexy and did I say Sexy Reese Witherspoon wow’d us with her Red Zac Posen Dress and her tussled hair seeming as if she just rolled out of bed with her hubby looking mysteriously sexy, super content and walking with the utmost confidence.
Marriage definitely has its advantages and agrees with Reese.

Angelina Jolie surprised us all by showing up in a white Satin Atelier Versace gown rather then the usual black . SO hard to pull off normally, Angelina was statuesque and stunning then topped it off with the perfect red lips. Having Brad Pitt as an accessory definitely added to her perfection. Cudos Angelina for the Best Dressed in my book!

Octavia Spencer really shined in her Tadashi Shoji lavender dress.
Perfectly fitted in all the right spots and teaching woman how to dress for their shape Octavia is divine in lavender.

Kate Beckinsale was absolutely impeccable in her nude beaded strapless Roberto Cavalli gown. With diamonds galore, flawless hair and make up, she makes for a Best Dressed #2.

Catastrophes and the painful truth……

 Dear Tina Fay,
Please hire a Fashion stylist because at this point people are expecting you to show up in a terrible dress on the red carpet. You made Oscar De La Renta look bad. This dress is for someone 4 inches taller then you with a lighter complexion and hair.
You’re beautiful, funny have a great figure and I’d love to see shock us all and finally show up in the perfect dress!!

Madonna is a musician and they tend to dress edgier then actresses however, what was she thinking!! This hideous dress was not only wrong for Madonna’s personality but the additional black glove just threw it out of the show all together. Shamefully, Madonna is a catastrophe.

How does adorable Michelle Williams make Jason wu look like a Kmart dress rather then the couture dress that it is. Wrong color (much to dark), wrong style for the petite Michelle, that’s how! Add the ribbon on her head made from something out of a Michaels Store and you get worst dressed #2.

Sarah Michelle Gellar wearing Monique Lhuillier said her 2 year old daughter picked out the dress and it looked like it. Better a stylist then your daughter dear Michelle.
The color and style of the dress was so much that you could spot her out of a running of the Bulls crowd. Gorgeous gown, wrong person. This dress is definitely not an Oscar Dress.
This is a dress that should be worn on Charlize Theron running barefoot on the beach for a perfume ad!!
Definitely Worst Dressed #1.  Congratulations!.

And there you have it ladies.
Always look closely at yourself before leaving for a night out. Those little details make a huge difference.

I am having a love affair with my curtains!

Monday, December 12th, 2011

Let me explain…

Photobucket

First of all, I feel that Sleep is highly Under rated. Most people, who know me, know that I LOVE to sleep. I don’t like waking up to the phone ringing or any loud banging. Once I get into bed, I have no interest is getting out til I;m good and ready! Since I don’t work a regular  9-5 hours on my  job I have the luxury to sleep in when not on a photo shoot and believe me, I take full advantage.

I happen to live facing East with the sun rising right into my bedroom window. Since my entire apartment is one long balcony from bedroom to living room, I can’t escape the bright sunlight every morning. Don’t get me wrong, I love the sunlight. In fact, it’s so bright in my apartment that I never have to put the lights on. Saves on electricity and I’m doing my part in conserving energy.  My sleep however, was broken up and disrupted from about 7am till 10am. I’d wake up every half hour, all morning til I finally got out of bed. You can imagine how frustrating that was for me.

The curtains I have are white light linens. They’re flowy and very nice to look at.

The only problem is they don’t really block the morning light.

Recently I came across the Sound Asleep Curtains!

They’re actually a room darkening curtain as well as the official curtain of the National Sleep foundation. The first night I put them up was the best sleep I’ve had in a long time and I am forever changed! Not only did they block out every ounce of light but the sound as well so once I shut my eyes, they didn’t open again til 9:30 am and I was completely rested. I am thrilled with my new found sleep .

So if you have any sort of interrupted sleep and are searching for the curtain that has that Hotel black out curtain feel, I suggest that you run and grab these. They come in all colors and are pretty glamorous to look.

But be careful, because once you put them up and get that experience of a sound sleep, you too will be a sleep lover just like me!!

Consign away!

Photobucket

As a Fashion Stylist, I specialize in combining pieces from a variety of places to create an eclectic and stylish look for my clients. I normally start at department stores and unique boutiques, then to the outlet stores and, saving the best for last, end up at the consignment stores. There is where I normally find my most unique pieces, the ones that you can’t find anywhere yet finish off the look and at the lowest prices. Consignment Shopping has been a trend for years although it was the “Best Kept Secret” of those who shopped there.

Designers go for inspiration for their newest collections, Fashion Stylists go to search for that one of a kind diamond in the rough and Shoppers go to save money on Designer duds buying at 60-80% off retail costs.

I personally don’t discriminate. You never know, while rummaging through the consignment store racks, when that designer blazer turns out to be the best 15$ you’ve ever spent.

In a time when we are all pinching pennies yet still want to look put together and trendy, consignment shopping definitely serves the purpose.

To  find a consignment store near you or to shop online at consignment shops all across the country go to http://ConsignmentChic.com This site has made things very simple and  done all of the work for you.

If you’ve never gone before here are a few tips to help you begin your journey of recessionista shopping.

1-Go through your own closet and see what you might want to consign out and make a little extra cash.

2-The clothes change and update daily, so I would suggest that you make a list and know what you’re looking for before getting there. That will help you not to get overwhelmed and keep you focused on just the pieces you’re looking for.

3-Make sure you try on what you’re buying. The size might not be what it says because the previous owner might have had it altered.

4- Get on the wish list. Customers who log their requests on the store wish list get first dibs on the highest demanded pieces and these items rarely make it on the sales floor. So if you don’t see what you are looking for, ask to be added to the wish list!  And if your local consignment store doesn’t have what you are looking for, don’t forget to scope out the online store on http://ConsignmentChic.com where you’ll find the best items from consignment shops all across the country.

Be Glamorous every day!

Wake me up, the Emmy’s are on…..

Tuesday, September 20th, 2011

OK, I’ll say it, since no one else is…..

The Primetime Emmys were SO BORING Sunday night. In a world where everything from Fashion to Food to Business is thinking “ outside the box”, the Emmy’s made me yawn. The fashion ran a close second! With the 20’s 40’s 60’s, 70’s and 80’ influences all over the runway and vintage options everywhere you’d think someone would get a clue. Where’s the gumptiom!?

No where to be found Sunday evening.

Except for the few celebrities who at least dared take a fashion chance, the dresses were Booorrrrrriiiiiiing!

How many ladies wore red or nude…? Too many.

Photobucket

From Sophia Vergada in a GORGEOUS Vera Wang number who almost hit it out of the ball park but absolutely ruined it by hanging chandeliers on her ears, to

Photobucket

Kate Winslet in Ellie Saab who wore it perfectly, I was still bored.

So let’s go over the Cudos and Catastrophes…..

Photobucket

Let’s begin with Gwyneth Paltrow who wore a black lace Emilio Pucci piece.

I’ve heard people saying how she took a chance however the chance didn’t make a Cudos. Unfortunately her figure looks square because of where the top ends and the skirt begins. With a square body , this is what Not to wear.  Had this dress been one piece it would have been flawless and her figure would have looked amazing.

Photobucket

Julianna Margulies wears a Giorgio Armani Privé dress and looks like a piece of pop art from the 60’s. The dress is way too long and her hair stylist forgot to style her hair!!

Photobucket

Christina Hendricks wears a Johanna Johnson Couture dress and thought that this was the best she ever looked? Hmmmmm. Truth is, it’s too much length, too much lace and the slit is in the wrong place. It is very unflattering and washes her out. Maybe next year.

Photobucket

Heidi Klum wears a Christian Siriano  dancing with the stars dress…need I say more?

Photobucket

oh KKKKKatie..what happened? Looks like she made a pit stop to the Emmy’s on her way to the movies. She threw her hair up and ran out the door.

And the CUDOS go to….

Julia Stiles who for me was the best dressed of the night wearing a Georges Hobeika gown

Perfectly styled  from head to toe.

My first runners up:

Kelly Osbourne in J. Mendel, Dianna Agron in  Roksanda Ilincic , Gretchen Mol in L’Wren Scott and  Evan Rachel Wood in Elie Saab. Unfortunately there was not much color but these dresses are all perfection, worn well, fit well and the designs are spectacular. So thanks Ladies for making my night!! CUDOS!!

MOMS TAKE TIME FOR YOU!!!

Monday, August 15th, 2011

Yes it’s been a while, I’ve been running back and forth to LA for work and one thing I see each time I visit is how everyone has their own sense of style.

It’s pretty amazing. From the downtown girl to the mom with child, even the dads have that extra flair. It’s really eye appealing. Now I might be wrong for saying that because it’s not all about looks and that’s just the exterior, but honestly…it’s really a pleasure to be out at a café or even at target and look around to see everyone cutely dressed.

Maybe it’s because that’s the land of celebrity.

I realized that there really isn’t much of a difference between a celebrity mom and a non celebrity mom except that a celebrity mom takes more risks with their clothes. That is it.

It really takes such little effort to put a little glam in your outfit.

Whether you’re going grocery shopping, taking the young one to the park or just driving the kids to soccer practice mom’s can still look cute. It takes one or two extra pieces to change an outfit from ordinary into your own!

Photobucket

Moms, I know that you’re thinking,” Why do I have to dress up, I don’t need to impress anyone.” Or “I’m just going to pick up the kids, why do I need add a scarf to my outfit?” The answer is,”you don’t” but when you look good you feel good, remember that?! When you’re going out and you throw on that dress, put on your make up , add your accessories , do your hair and slide into your heels, don’t you feel like a lady, don’t you feel feminine, attractive and ooops…sexy!  I bet you do.

So why not take an extra 5 minutes for yourself and get a little cuter.

Just for this week, as an experiment, take time for you and add something special to your outfit before you run out. Do it only for yourself and I bet by the end of the week you’ll feel a little more sassy!

Moms (including Celebrity moms) come in all ages and styles. Figure out your style and dive in!!

Here are a few ideas:

Trade your t-shirt in for a bright colored shirt, add a belt and a few accessories (necklace, bangles, watch, earrings), add your sunglasses and out you go.

Photobucket

If you’re wearing shorts and a tank in neutral colors why not add a pop of color through a hat or a colorful leather band on your watch or handbag. Pair it with sandals, dangling earrings and a bangle. For more excitement add a light weight scarf.

For simple leggings add a wrap around your head and cute sandals.

Photobucket

Sporting a sundress or a sun skirt? Go Boho chic by adding a long necklace, put your hair in a side braid and tie a scarf around the end and let it hang and add platform sandals.

Photobucket

Add a vest or sleeveless long cardigan to your t/shirt and jeans. Tuck in your t/shirt and add a belt with a matching leather watch and matching leather sandals.

Photobucket

Just by adding a belt, sandals, a great statement bracelet and bag makes the difference between an outfit and a little edge.

Photobucket

On a side note, when experimenting with color, use neutrals and add your pop of color to only one piece like you shirt or just your bottoms, Keep accessories neutral as well.

Enjoy the week and if you have questions visit me at www.lisacstyles.com

THE WEDGE!!

Monday, June 13th, 2011

ALWAYS and forever I love the wedge. It provides fashionable smoke and mirrors. A tall lean you in a high platform shoe without the pain and suffering of being in a stiletto all day.

The truth is, if you measure the front platform and measure the back platform and subtract the difference, that’s actually how high the arch is. So go get um girls, moms, and all of the in betweens.

I say, As long as you can walk in them you can wear them.

Designers are making them so adventurous in all shapes and sizes for summer and even moving into fall. From casual Sneaker and Strappy wedges to evening and boot wedges in all colors.

Everyone from LAMB to Steve Madden and Rag & Bone to Stella McCartney & Dolce & Gabbana are in on these thick yet sexy shoes.

If you’re not sure how to wear here are a few ideas.

One thing to remember is Balance. Platform wedges are thick shoes, not delicate like a sandal or a strappy heel. So if you’re going to wear them, make sure your clothes balance it out on top; for instance ……

Don’t wear them with Skinny jeans. The jeans stick to your legs so you have sexy thin legs then a thick heavy shoe with that and it doesn’t. Keep your skinny jeans with your delicate shoes.

So as I said, if you can walk in your platforms please carry on.

With shorts a t/s a blazer

JEANS WITH A FLARE….

Monday, April 4th, 2011

The flared Jean, How I adore them!! If you know me, you know that I have my favorite pair…7 for all mankind medium wash slight stretch flared jean.

Been wearing them for at least 3 years, and don’t ask me to get rid of them!

LOVE EM, LOVE EM and did I say LOVE EM?

Yes, designers have channeled the 70′s hugely this summer.

The question is, Should you wear them?

Answer? ABSOLUTELY & POSITIVELY… YES!

SO here’s how.

First of all, here’s what not to do.

Look at all similar to Saturday Night Fever or Farrah Fawcett in Charlie’s Angels (although we do and will always LOVE her).

Don’t wear A 70′s inspired jean with a top that has the same Bohemian look, i.e., a peasant top, vintage tops with fringe, a tube top, etc.  I think you get the idea.

Instead, pair them with something more current like a t-shit, a crisp button down shirt, a fitted blazer or a silk blouse.

You can look modern and fresh, when paired with a modern top, and that is key.

Oscar winner Natalie Portman styled hers with a silk button down blouse and layered it with a shorter capelet  and a scarf.  Jenna Dewan adds a stripe tank, brown woven belt, clogs and a leather bag creating a look that has many 70’s elements yet looks completely fresh because of the tank.

Jumping Queen!!

Tuesday, March 22nd, 2011

I was told by a friend of mine recently that in numerology this is my year to have fun.

Well fun I’m definitely going t have especially with fashion.

Designers like BCBG, Proenza Schouler, Malandrino, Etro and Gucci

Re introduced the 70’s at the Spring/Summer Runway shows and one of my all time favs…

The return of the Jumpsuit.

Photobucket

In true bohemian form, these fabulous pieces were shown in silky and slinky fabrications with halter tops and deep plunging necklines. They came in bright colors, shine and neutral tones and covered in bold ethnic prints.

For day or night these one piece wonders make us feel connected some how in the reminiscing of happier and care free times. We live in a world of war and full of confusion, so it’s nice to see these styles brightening up the summer months.

Some of you are on the fence about this look but designers have made them so easy to wear by giving many choices of different silhouettes. These sexy yet comfy numbers come in full leg (LOVE!), cropped, harem (SO LOVE!)  And bell bottom (LOVE LOVE) so there’s no need to be afraid. Leave them loose or accent your waist by adding a belt Pair them with sandals, platforms or a Strappy heel for a more glamorous look.

They’re too much fun to pass up!!
