This morning, I started my week with forty glossy coats of mascara. “Forty winks” if you will.

Why the added (lash) drama you may wonder? Fluttering my over- the- top lush lashes is my tribute to

my favorite bright green and pink tube of Maybelline Great Lash mascara who’s turns 40 this week!

This is not just any mascara. No no no. This is a great mascara. In fact, a tube of Great Lash Mascara is sold every 1.7 seconds in the US and is

coveted by makeup artists, celebrities and beauty mavens everywhere who are serious about working their wink.

Maybelline Great Lash Mascara made its beautymark launching in 1971.

The tubes signature bold colors were created by, then up-and-coming, designer Lilly Pulitzer.

Something especially fascinating to me is that through the years the formula has never changed. Never. The recipe is one of the best kept beauty secrets of the bizz.

These designs are limited and can be found exclusively at Target (www.target.com) unless you live close-by … I assure you I have wiped the shelves clean.

See, Great Lash and I go way back. Growing up I can recall my Mom having a few items in her makeup drawer:

A blue hairbrush the color of a robins egg (or Tiffany box), a lipstick and a single tube of Great Lash mascara.

It was the discovery of this magic formula at this early age that my love-obsession of lashes began.

By 12yrs old I had my very own tube tucked in my purse. I spent an incredible amount of time in the mirror, mouth open, painting and painting and p.a.i.n.t.i.n.g this lush black lacquer to my lashes, never leaving home without at least one glossy coat. “Only do what your heart tells you.” Princess Diana

This past Friday as we tuned in, along with two billion people, at 4am to watch the Royal Wedding of Prince William and Catherine Middleton, our eyes were focused on one thing and one thing only, the breathtaking bride. We sat on the edge of our seats with what seemed to be forever, waiting for a glimpse of the beauty beneath the veil.

At the beginning of the week we heard the bride had chosen to paint her own face the day of her wedding. Knowing Kate had taken some lessons with a professional makeup artist we still had to wonder would she be picture perfect for her big day? On that morning, as the sun peeked from the clouds, her veil was lifted and a perfectly polished princess was revealed…Kate did indeed please.

The new princess made a beautiful statement with gorgeous strong brows, thick lovely lashes, and flawless skin. Her cheeks glowed as brightly as the smile wrapped warmly across her face.

Few words immediately came to mind~ elegant, breathtaking, confident and classic. From head to toe she bestowed timeless beauty. Her prince charming gently whispered, “You look beautiful.” The world melted. Her makeup did not.

The very next day calls poured into the shop. Appointments booked up. Everyone wants to “radiate like Kate.” 

Here is our our royal reccommendation for glowing from lashes to lips:

- Book a makeup lesson with a professional Makeup Artist and create a look that will have you feeling pretty as a princess

- Have your brows professionally sculpted to perfection

- Indulge in a set of Xtreme eyelash extensions. Ask for a little eye-lighting to add a twinkle to those eyes

- Choose a foundation to hide imperfections and create skin that appears flawless. A little here a little there. Less is more. 

- Choose a bright cheek cream to best suite your skin. Concentrate on the apples of your cheeks, bronzer also works to keep you naturally “blushing”.

- Paint your pout with a soft pink lipstick or gloss

As we begin a beautyfull New Year here at LadyLash it’s incredibly important for us to continue to reach out- reach deep, inspiring and empowering people everywhere as we passionately continue on our path of “Changing Lives Through Beauty”.

This month we caught up with gorgeous E News Beauty Giuliana Rancic as she touched down in Miami, FL. for a wonderful cause.

Giuliana is a fascinating woman who proudly wears many many (fashionable) hats. She is perhaps best known as fun On-Air personality/host for E Television however, her job dosen’t stop there. She is just as busy ,if not more, behind the camera as well.

 This Italian born ‘force of nature’ does not slow down nor skip a beat. When the studio lights dim, her spirit shines as she continues to write, edit, produce, penn books and not to mention, i STAR in her hugely successful, and inspiringly ‘real’ reality show, Giuliana and Bill, along side her adorable and supportive husband, Bill Rancic.

Giuliana insists, “Have passion. Be the first person to arrive and the last to leave… people will notice.” Words she clearly lives by.

Giuliana along with CEO of Dress For Success, Joi Gordon, and Tropicana Trop50 partnered up with Girlfriends Giving Goodness to host a series of seminars to prepare and inspire women re-entering the workforce in a difficult economy.   Their goal is to reach out, encourage and instill confidence. After all “confidence is key” and Joi explains how empowering her job is, “Giving a woman a suit gives her self confidence and self worth. Wearing a suit just feels important”.

It truly touched our hearts to witness Giuliana and Joi taking time out of their insane schedules to mentor, support and provide these women with all the tools (and suits) they need- helping them believe in themselves, become successful and ultimately look and feel incredible as they unlock the new doors of opportunity before them. 

As we all laughed, teared up and sipped our pomegranate (!) Trop50 juices Georgio & I couldnt help but wonder how Giuliana does it all while maintaining a brilliant smile paired with a wild sense of humor. She is poised and embodies such style, grace and a sophistication that is widely admired. She gracefully shared her “secret”, “In order to balance it all it has to come from a deeper place. It comes from being grateful. I am very grateful. ” Giuliana shared.

She promises that taking just 5 minutes a day to be grateful will literally change your life. We agree. Try it. Practice it. LIVE IT. That advice has become our New Years Resolution.

As our time with Giuliana came to an end a few words danced across our minds:  S-mart.

S-ophisticated. S-uccessful. S-exy.

We felt honored to have sat down with yet another woman with a “S” painted prominent on her chest.  Watch out- this super POWER woman is taking over the world armed with gratitude, attitude, a little bronzer and fab lashes (her beauty must-haves)!

Ms. Chevillar lit up the room, effortlessly capturing Marilyn’s vibrant spirit, grace, style, sophistication and timeless beauty.

Although “her candle burned out long before her legend ever did”, Marilyn’s star is shining bright, passionately painted into our hearts.
