My Home Must be a Castle Because I Need a King’s Ransom to Maintain It

I know they say that your home is your castle but I thought it was a reference to your domain, not your costs. But in the world of today, costs are such that you need to be royalty to pay for it. My home is about 28 years old. It’s in terrific shape but maintaining a home can be a full time job. I need help. If you do as well, home shows can be a good place to start. I personally am heading out this weekend to get some well needed advice and I am inviting you all to come along.
Home shows traditionally have miles of exhibitors showcasing new ideas in home maintenance. They are a great place to help frazzled homeowners like me find all of these “fixes” under one roof. They also are a great place for homeowners looking to make some cosmetic changes as well. New sunrooms, decks, additions are all showcased on the floor of these shows. Also on display are practical improvements like new carpet innovations and new appliances designed to help your home be more energy efficient. Recently I purchased new carpeting that is supposed to be the new state of the art, stain resistant alternative. I discovered it at a home show.
Be warned however, that typically all home shows have a section known as the dreaded “do it yourself” area. I do not think there has been a bigger boom to the construction business then the “do it yourself”-ers. I have been called many things in my day but “handy” has never been one of them. (Do not send in suggestions about what some of the other things might be). That’s because I think I can do it myself but most of the time, I cannot. And then I call the contractor who can. I like to think of it as my way of stimulating the economy. So I get a very patriotic feeling I get when I make that call.
These are really fun shows for the whole family so don’t be afraid to take the kids. As always, I try to highlight some of the more popular shows going on around the country every week in this blog. Most of you will be unable to attend these specific shows but you can use the search box above to find shows going on in your area. Have a great time and get to know many of the contractors exhibiting. It may come in handy in the future. I’m just saying.
