Quiet on the Set

How was everyone’s week? If today is any indication of how my week’s been going, hectic would be an understatement. But I’ve enjoyed reviewing fun new family friendly entertainment and working to forge new ground with the National Board of Mothers movement. I love the picks that we have for our blog this week and am so excited to share them all with you! All of you are why I am here, so please feel free to let me know your thoughts on our topics and any other movies or tv picks we haven’t covered. So as they say out here in Hollywood, “lights, camera, action!”

I know from personal experience that being a mom can be tough. Finding the right DVD to show our kids should be easy, but it’s not. Most of the movies that I find are sort of off the mainstream radar, so you can imagine my joy when I was able to get the recent release of Secret of the Mountain. This aired just a few months back on NBC and is part of their joint effort with Wal-Mart and Proctor & Gamble to bring back the family movie night. Hooray for family movie night! It is so refreshing to hear others on the same path! This one is a winner!

Secrets of the Mountain
Director: Douglas Barr

Cast: Paige Turco, Shawn Christian, Crawford Wilson, Adelaide Kane, Kayla Carlson, Barry Bostwick

Year: 2010

Length: 85 minutes

Language: English

This inspirational film depicts how one family facing many challenges, bonds together and is there for each other… Sure do hope that P&G/WalMart and NBC make more of these great family movies.  I’ll be reviewing their next family movie, The Jensen Project, soon.   Stay tuned!

And moms, I found a great recipe called Aztec Hot Chocolate that is absolutely yummy!!!  It goes great with the movie, you’ll see! If you are interested, email me and I will send it to you.

Read what a few of these moms had to say:

Virginia: A terrific family movie!

Doris: Wow! What an unexpected surprise. A real gem.

Valerie: My kids and I really had a fun time watching this movie.

Martha: An edge-of-the-seat adventure the whole family will enjoy!

If you are interested in finding other family friendly movies on DVD, here is a good place to start.

I remember the days (oh my gosh, now you are going to want to guess my age) when it was just channels 1 to 13 for our tv options. Today with over 300 channels to chose from, don’t you find it overwhelming? If we find it overwhelming, can you image how our children feel? Everyday I am singing the praises of Parent Television Council for their time saver TV picks and their tireless efforts to reign in what appears to be out of control right now. The weather has been pretty drastic for a good portion of our country, maybe this weekend we take cover inside the theatre. What is your favorite part of going to see a movie? Is it the popcorn? Well for me it’s the popcorn, the candy, the hot dog, the nachos, and the afterthought is usually the movie. While the family movie reviewed for this weekend is supposed to be tailored for the whole family, the National Board of Mothers did not approve this movie as being suitable for the entire family. You can see why if you read further below in the “contains” details portion. At the end of the day, you know what’s best for your family.

It’s a wrap! Enjoy your weekend with your loved ones and hopefully this post has made your life just a bit easier. If there is anything you would like to see here, have reviewed, or need help finding please email me. Your suggestions and feedback are always welcome! See you next Friday!
